Weekend Weather

Friday brings the peak of the county's Extreme Heat Warning: a sunny high near 100°F, an overnight low around 75°F, and only a 10 percent chance of rain. The warning holds through Saturday at 8 p.m., though Saturday itself eases slightly to a high near 95°F with a 24 percent chance of a stray afternoon storm. Sunday breaks the streak with a high of 83°F, a low of 66°F, and a 67 percent chance of thunderstorms. Looking ahead, Monday continues the cooldown with a high of just 71°F but with an 85 percent chance of rain.

Five Best of Monroe: Beat the Heat Indoors

When the mountain weather turns hostile, don't just wait it out, own it. Here are five ways to spend a hot Monroe County weekend without setting foot in the sun.

Test Your Wits in the Escape Circuit. Wonderland Madhouse in Tannersville turns puzzle-solving into a full production, a massive multi-zone Alice-in-Wonderland-themed experience with mini golf and a cocktail bar built in. For a tighter, more classic challenge, Klues Escape Room on Main Street in Stroudsburg keeps its puzzles focused and demands real teamwork if you want to beat the clock.

Dive Into the Aquatic Scene. Aquatopia at Camelback remains the county's flagship indoor water park, with its transparent roof and warm 84°F water year-round. Great Wolf Lodge and Kalahari Resorts also offer their own massive indoor complexes. All three keep the water warm (though still colder than the air temperature) no matter what the sky is doing outside.

Retail Therapy in the Boroughs and Beyond. Start at the Pocono Premium Outlets for a bargain hunt, then slow down in Downtown Stroudsburg, where independent boutiques offer the kind of curated browsing a big box store can't match. Make the Olde Engine Works Market Place your last stop, a 22,000-square-foot antique co-op that turns a hot afternoon into a treasure hunt.

Catch the Weekend Blockbusters. The Cinemark Stroud Mall has the new releases covered this weekend, with Minions & Monsters, Toy Story 5, and Supergirl all on the schedule. If you'd rather go vintage, the Pocono Cinema & Cultural Center in East Stroudsburg is screening the original Jaws Friday night at 9:30, in the same three-screen building that showed Monroe County's first moving pictures back in 1913 (though its history dates back to its founding as a vaudeville theater and opera house in 1884).

Wind Down with Local Craft. Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville is the county's craft beer staple, RAW Urban Winery & Hard Cidery on Main Street in Stroudsburg offers an artistic, modern tasting room vibe, and Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard & Winery in Saylorsburg offers the classic vineyard view if you'd rather sip somewhere scenic (though it may be more than a bit hot for the outdoor seats).

The Daily Rundown

Road Work Ahead on South 9th. State Rep. Tarah Probst's office is alerting residents that UGI will begin a construction project Monday, July 6, lasting roughly three weeks and affecting South 9th Street and Mill Alley in Stroudsburg. Parking and road access in the area may be limited during the work.

The Smartest Warrior in the PSAC. East Stroudsburg's Anna Coulter has been named a 2025-26 PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference's top combined academic and athletic honor. No relation to the political commentator Ann Coulter; this one is making headlines for her hitting percentage on the volleyball court and her grade point average, not cable news. Coulter is already a three-time PSAC East Athlete of the Year, and the Nevins award requires at least a 3.50 GPA on top of that kind of on-court production.

Fifty Years Later, Still Picking Up Where They Left Off. Roughly 250 Stroudsburg High School graduates gathered this week for a reunion organized by the 50 Plus Club, meaning every attendee graduated at least half a century ago. BRC reports that attendees traveled in from across the country and, despite the decades apart, old friends said they were able to pick up right where they left off.
